Christmas messages 2017 - Esther McVey

Tatton MP’s Christmas message

Esther McVey, MP for Tatton

Christmas time is always a period of reflection and thinking of others – this year so much has happened locally and globally.

Domestically we have seen heart-breaking tragedy and disaster with the fire at Grenfell Tower and more terrorist attacks, one very close to home in Manchester.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims as they face the first Christmas without their loved ones. Our emergency services have shown themselves as world class once more, and we thank them for their continued dedication.

It was a privilege to be elected as your new MP this June, and I am looking forward to 2018 where I will continue, first and foremost, being a local MP getting about the constituency and meeting local residents, businesses and charities.

Over the last few months I have been impressed by the science and technology based businesses, large and small across the constituency and whether life sciences, energy storage, mass spectrometry or chemical engineering I will continue to advocate to promote these sectors and ensure they continue to thrive.

I will continue with the campaign to open up the mid Cheshire and other rail lines and get better bus links for our area, and connecting with the Welcome Centre and the DWP to look for ways to get greater community support for those seeking work.

Added to that I will continue working with local residents to protect precious Greenbelt from overdevelopment, and where houses are built, to ensure the necessary infrastructure – such as transport, schools and GPs - are put in place.

Christmas is a happy time for many, celebrating with friends and family, but for others, it's a busy working period so thank you to all those who continue helping others over the festive period.

I am delighted to be part of this wonderful community. I have moved my family home into the constituency so any spare time this holiday will be spent unpacking boxes!

Here's hoping you all have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
